The pre-audit scramble is so common that most compliance teams have learned to budget for it. A week or two of evidence collection, screenshot capture, file hunting, and approval chasing. It is exhausting work, and — more importantly — it produces a fragile, point-in-time picture of a program that should have been continuously observable all along.

Evidence as a first-class object

In ComplyAura, evidence is not a folder you remember to populate. It is a structured object with an owner, a refresh cadence, the control(s) it satisfies, an approver, and a lifecycle. The platform requests new evidence on schedule and notifies the right person when an artifact is approaching expiration.

Three principles that change the model

• Evidence has an expiration date. Quarterly reviews expire quarterly; annual reviews annually. Currency is tracked automatically rather than guessed at audit time.
• Evidence points up to controls and frameworks. Each artifact knows which controls it satisfies and, by extension, which framework requirements benefit. Filing by "soc2-evidence" folder names becomes unnecessary.
• Approvals are part of the record. The reviewer, the timestamp, and the comments are stored alongside the artifact, producing an audit-grade trail without a separate documentation system.

The result: the audit week that wasn't

When evidence collection is distributed across the year on a defined cadence, audit preparation collapses into a review of the work that already happened. There is nothing to scramble for, because nothing was deferred.
